I'm not as big a fan of Lillian as some, but the joke at the end was... priceless. LOL. Seriously, made the chapter.
My writing is going slower than it used to. Once I started publishing the editing schedule killed my writing productivity. I only wrote the one book last year, and the 6 Supercorp fanfics. But I'm already 4 chapters into the sequel of another one my books so...getting there. I want to write another SG fan fic to add to my collection but I've felt so disconnected to the show now. Like, if I write another it's really going to diverge from cannon since I would have Supergirl working with the DEO and would not include the current show events. Then again, my other stories didn't either.
Anyway, keep up your writing because you're one of my favorite Supercorp authors on AO3. <3
I adore Lillian, but she's not to everyone's tastes. I'm glad the final joke paid off. I try to write chapters that build up toward some kind of payoff, and all too often some joke is that payoff.
I hate revising. That's where fanfic is nice because you're publishing something that is pretty much raw. The most I'll do is let the piece sit for a week before editing it, but there are no major revisions. I saw some advice on revising recently, and though it terrifies me, I'm going to try it on one of my original works that needs a complete overhaul. The advice was to completely retype, every word, of your revisions. So you either print out or put the first-draft on another screen and then you start typing. The writer said it really helped them to make deep cuts and major changes since they were retyping the whole thing anyway.
Personally, I encourage you to diverge as far from canon as you want in your fanfic. I think a major part of fanfic writing is that combination of a sparked imagination and an unsatisfying feeling of incompletion that comes from canon. Fanfic fills the void left in the canon experience. Most of the most fervent fandoms are based on relationships never found in canon.
I will keep producing SuperCorp work. I find the collaboration between writer and reader to be both incredibly fulfilling and a wonderful teaching tool. This fandom and site have given me a lot back, and I really appreciate that.
