Holy crap, wow, thank you! Reading this comment made my night, maybe even my year. Apologies for taking so long to respond; I wanted to make sure I had the time to give it the response it deserved.
I'm touched that my story of change, identity and fluidity resonated so strongly with your own experiences and connections. One of the many things the story's about, I think, is those relationships with people who, however briefly they come into your life, lead you to new places and help shape how you think of yourself, so it's such a treat to hear that it connected with you on that level.
I really love your idea of the spirit of Nayru, and I'm honored that you see me as representing it. One of the things I thought a lot about while writing was the idea of Nayru as also the goddess of Time - which means change and everything that comes with it, and for me, who's always been fascinated by the hidden corners of Hyrule's history, it let me explore Zelda-Sheik as someone who knows they have a role in a much larger story, but is still working out what that place might be. Which, as you might be able to guess, has some resonance for me. At the end of the day, maybe that's what I bring to Hyrule. It means a lot to hear that my perspective meant so much to you.
I agree that the structure is quite ambitious. Honestly, looking back, a couple of years later, I'm astonished that it actually worked. Sophos, Sophia holds up surprisingly well - of all my works, it's one of the ones I'm still most proud of. Sometimes I think of it as a little miracle that was just sent down one summer by the gods. It's definitely a nice little achievement to have under my belt.
Thank you for the offer of critique! I'm honestly a bit torn. I've been a bit caught up in other things and concentrating my energies on other writing lately. But I might take you up on that feedback sometime in the near future. I'll be sure to let you know!
Thank you again for writing such a lovely and personal comment. It means a lot. I wrote this story to give myself a way forward, and I think that's part of what gives it its strength, strength that I still draw on today. I'm so glad it meant so much to you as well!
