honestly, I dont think Frey ever saw it as alienating. He didnt know Tony until much later, and he hadn't raised him, so he didnt have a lot of paternal feelings. He had a son, and he had a problem that having a son could solve, and he thought Tony would grow to be okay with it, because that's how it works to him. I know Frey is somewhat of the bad guy, but I dont honestly think he's evil - he's stuck in his ways, and he thought Tony was misled by Loki. The pain was only a fleeting thought for Frey, not anything he ever really considered.
The best types of villains are the ones that you can sort of sympathize with. Truly evil-only villains aren't as fun to read. You did a great job with Frey :)
