I'm really happy you enjoyed it! I can totally understand where you're coming from, but a revelation at Thriller Bark was more suited to what I was trying to write. This was actually my first time writing in the second person and I was a bit unsure of it at the beginning myself, but the more I wrote the more I found it suited the very introspective narrative of this fic. The two final paragraphs were probably my favourites to write and I'm glad they gave of the right dramatic impression. The idea of what records will be left behind is something I love exploring and I'm actually considering writing something about how history decides to paint Luffy, what details will shine and what man they'll make him out to be.
Ah, yeah. I don't know if it shows, but English isn't usually my language of choice when it comes to writing. So I'm sure there were some mistakes. I'm currently looking for a beta because I don't really trust my own grasp of English that well. I feel that my education in French grammar rules helps very little when attempting to correct one's own work.
In that context, I can understand why it could seem a bit odd. I'll probably go back and edit it a little. I think that there must be some level of astronomical study in One Piece, as the term Supernova appears as one of Luffy's titles, it could have a different meaning, but I feel it implies some knowledge of astronomy. The developpement of science and technology in One Piece seems very arbitrary. On one hand they seem to be incredibly advances with the ability to make cyborgs, massive chemical weapons with sentient life and able to harness cola as a type of fuel. On the other hand, cannonballs are still used in combat and wooden ships are commonplace. It's confusing and more than a little inconsistent. Whilst knowledge doesn't appear to be accessible (an obvious example is the lack of standardized education), scholars do appear to exist and I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere in the One Piece universe a scientist is writing meticulous notes about celestial bodies and the endless reaches of space.
Zoro, when he narrates through italics, isn't the Zoro from the canon, but a much older version. One that has lived in a world post-Pirate King. A more solitary, more learned Zoro. Who has accomplished his dream and has had time to focus and discover other things. It's just my headcanons though.
Thank you for leaving such detailed feedback! It's really great to hear what you thought, it's really the only way for me to improve.
