THANK YOU so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful, in-depth, thoughtful review! I was checking my profile at work when I saw it, my grin getting wider and wider, until I was almost bouncing in my chair. It didn’t just make my day. It made my whole week!
I never expected to hear so many wonderful things about Tyre! I had no grand scheme for his character, and zero plot outlined except for the fact that he was going to encounter Equinox; as with most of my stuff, his personality wrote itself as the story unfolded. By the time I was done, I had grown incredibly fond of the little Grineer I’d created, but I didn’t think anyone to give him more than the usual once-over.
That you not only noticed these things about Tyre and the humdrum world he occupies, like him being a very sincere grunt, but also thought about them and then took the time to write such a long, beautiful review… honestly, I’m blown away. You made me consider my own writing in a whole new light. I’m always fascinated by how other people can find an entirely different perspective or angle you didn’t intend to create, but one that exists nonetheless. You revealed a level to Tyre’s story that I didn’t even think to see. For a moment I got to look at it with fresh eyes, and that felt like a rare gift.
And yes, the short-story format is awesome. It’s liberating in that you don’t have to worry about massive, interconnected plots or character development, or whether you’ve just opened a plot hole big enough to swallow the sun. You can just cut and polish a single moment in time.
