    Coming from this background a lot of Crawford's character is suddenly explained. But I'm a terrible person, because upon reading that revelation my mind immediately went: so now he gets to share his home with his teenager son, controlling mother, obnoxious coworkers and future love interest. It's like the premise of a great sitcom! (did I mention I'm a terrible person?)

      Perhaps... you are not the only terrible person. :D Perhaps something like that will happen (to him, poor man...). Perhaps it won't be a sitcom more like something fluffy and often funny.
