Dude Stratford tower is gonna blow their minds. It is pretty interesting that Connor is much more expressive then regular non-deviant androids. It's probably because of either
A) The whole "Cyberlife planned for you to go deviant the whole time" thing that Amanda was gloating to Connor when she went all evil parasite on him
OR B) It's the literally dying 50 times during his testing at Cyberlife thing Cause really, he's Connor -51. What happened to the other Connors from before he was released for the hostage situation with Daniel? Maybe it's both. Either way our poor bot boy has been suuuper manipulated by Cyberlife.
I hadn't realized it before, but I really like reading Hank and Connor's story without input from the other two main characters. Don't get me wrong, I like Kara and Markus' storylines, and how making one character do something effects the other characters as well. But I mean, Hank and Connor are my favorite! And playing it as just Connor as the main character adds a mystery element when you investigate. Like, when you already know where Kara is because you just played as her, it's less of an opportunity to really find all the clues to eventually lead you to them. And if you already know the key to Jericho, when Connor has to find it in the evidence room your more looking for proof of what you already know rather than trying to find its location through all the different clues.
I guess what I'm saying is I reaaally want a pure detective focused game staring Connor and Hank :P Like, the very first investigations with Daniel and Ortiz's android is great! You come into the scene fresh. You don't know anything that happened before hand, and you have to piece it together with the evidence. I guess it makes sense for Connor to only come onto a scene AFTER we already played through with Markus or Kara. After all, they are the ones he's investigating. But it always makes it feel like Connor's story is only secondary to the "main" story. Like a sub-plot. It doesn't feel like purely HIS story. Which I guess is probably the point, all of the stories had to work together and effect each other. But Kara and Markus both had something that was really only their story. Like when Kara, Alice and Luther met the Jerry androids. Or when Markus goes to see Carl. They both have moments where they take a step back from their main objective(Protect Alice and staring the revolution, respectively) and take a second to do their own thing. Connor's story was suuuuper goal oriented. Pretty much everything up until he deviates is connected to his mission. Even doing stuff like going to the Chicken Feed for lunch before The Nest, he was talking about deviants and thinking about his mission. Even after he deviates, he's super focused on his mission of freeing the androids form the Cyberlife warehouse. I'm just saying, the other characters get a scene where they're characters are being developed and explored, relationships are built without being interrupted by the main plot line, they get a break. I think a good place for a scene like this for Connor would be right after Jericho was raided. If he deviated, we can get a better idea of how that effected him, and how he's handling it. We can see what changed with his character, and how this event helped him grow and develop. It seems like he jumped to 'nEW MISSION GONNA TELL CYBERLIFE TO F OFF' really fast. It would have been cool to see him struggle with his new emotions and come to that plan after some time to sit and think. (I know he had that time in-game during the walk to the church, but WE didn't see it, and the church scene was a Markus scene.)
But yeah, got kinda off track, sorry. Yeah, I like that it's in Hanks POV, and that we don't see what's going on with Markus or Kara from their POV. That way we discover the world along with Hank and Connor, and the story feels more intriguing and mysterious as a result. Really well written, probably going to read it over a few times again
Thanks for getting this chapter out! It's one of the better ones I think, because it broke away from the major Eden Club straight to Stratford that happened in canon :)
Oh yeah, Stratford Tower will be a doozy for both of them, haha. As for Connor and how expressive he can be, I feel like that's due to many reasons! When it comes to what's on the surface, it could just be the fact that he's "the most advanced prototype" created so far, so it would make sense for him to have a more natural way of moving, speaking, etc., purely because of advancements in that kind of technology... and having a specific social program and appearance that makes him blend in with humans probably contributes to it as well. But I think there's also lots of other reasons below the surface, especially what you said about how he was possibly created to be deviant. There seems to be a lot about his character even BEFORE he becomes deviant that points to that being true, like how conscious he is/how much of a personality he has from the get-go, how he has the ability to do things that aren't part of normal android behavior (reacting emotionally, wandering around, making choices that go against his programming and even just having the ability to make those choices in the first place), how he's programmed to measure his software INstability rather than maintaining stability, etc. So yeah, I feel like it isn't too far-fetched to think that he was programmed with deviancy in mind, for sure. And that's a good point about there being lots of Connors before this one... I didn't think about that being a factor! Either way, you're right: He's absolutely being manipulated by CyberLife in many ways. Actually, that was something I wanted show in one of his talks with Hank, where he echoes word-for-word some of the things Amanda tells him, just to show how pressured he is to stop the deviants. Our boy definitely has a lot going through his mind throughout the whole process, and (IMO) it's entirely possible that that pressure might be one of the contributing factors to his deviancy, mainly because of how desperate he becomes to make sure he succeeds in the end.
I get what you mean! It can be cool to see a certain scene from one POV (Connor/Hank's) vs. the other (Markus/Kara), but it's also really fun to be able to explore the world and figure out these mysteries with fresh eyes vs. investigating what we as the players already know. I definitely wouldn't mind a detective game with just Connor and Hank, either. :D That's an interesting point about Connor's story being more reactive to the other characters rather than being its own standalone plot the whole way through. It would be neat to see what a Connor story would be like without any sort of influence from the other characters' stories.
Ha, no worries! I enjoyed reading your thoughts about all this stuff. Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you liked the chapter! I was a little nervous about it because it strayed so much from the canon timeline, so I'm really happy that it's being well-received. :)
