Oh, for sure he's defending his investment as it were, not his grandson. I don't honestly think he cares at this moment for Turais (and other members of his family) beyond what they bring to the table. He hasn't displayed any emotional connection to anyone so far.
Maybe that will change, but from my own experience with a grandfather that was born during WWI (and all the racist, bigoted and privileged tendencies associated with that time), they don't develop empathy, open mindedness or caring in old age. In fact, they tend to just get more entrenched.I
