It could have worked out this way, yes. Though Lex has a tendency to self-sabotage. :)

    1. He does but just look who his father is, he had to learn or Lionel would have destroyed him. But I really believe that Lex would have never hurt Clark, Lex found a real friend in Clark and if Clark's dad was not that small minded and self-centered than he and Lex wouldn't have had become enemies. Cause look after all Lex knew he never used it to hurt Clark directly.

For heaven sake he is a scientist and they are always looking for answers... Clark should have trusted Lex instead of being so afraid of being different. Normal is over rated..

I agree that a scientist probes for answers, but one of Lex's faults is pushing too hard. Clark grew up keeping his Secret, and yes, put that on the Kents, but what would you have them do while Clark was growing up? People fear difference, and Clark couldn't have had a semblance of a normal childhood if people knew about him. In Smallville's world, the Kents would have disappeared either because of the Government or Lionel and Clark would have ended up a lab rat.

He was young when he met Lex and still wasn't mature. He made mistakes, but so did Lex. The rift that happened between them had fault on both sides.

I like reading your thoughts! Everyone has different opinions and I enjoy debating them.

I do believe that Lex would have protected Clark had he known the Secret, but honestly, it would be a risk to tell him, especially as Lionel would find out, most likely. Is it fair? No, but life often isn't.

And that's why fanfic exists, to fix things! ;)

        1. I get what you mean, people tend to fear what they don't understand. And the Kent did what they could but I still believe that they raised Clark to be afraid of his powers. Clark was guilt ridden of all the death the meteor cause, they should have not hid the truth from him so long and then tell him when they feel they have no choice. Clark was already scare of being different and then they go and tell him he is not from this world when he survives and accident that could have killed him.

Another thing you are right maybe telling Lex at the beginning would have been a bad Idea cause of Lionel but after a while of being Lex friend and seen how far Lex would go to protect Clark I think Clark could have just admitted to Lex that yes he hit him but that he was not ready to tell him everything yet. Cause at the end it was the lies that Lex could not stand not the secrets. He already knew Clark had secrets and he wasn't looking for them he was tired of Clark lying to him and still calling him his friend.

Like to me it was not right that when Chloe caught him he told her the truth but kept on hiding things from Lex who had seen him do things with his powers. Another that I think should not have been told was Pete, come on he used Clark for his own benefit and Clark forgave him. Even Chloe betrayed him and he forgave her, but he never gave Lex a second chance not to even explain the Room.

Clark held Lex to high, he expected Lex to be someone he wasn't and instead of being there for Lex he failed him. In my opinion Clark was being a hypocrite cause he gave everyone the benefit of the doubt but Lex. If I had the powers Clark has I would not have allowed someone I consider my best friend to suffer at the hands of Lionel. I would have taken Lex with me when he saw me hit the car with Edge inside. But like I said Clark being raised to fear what others would do didn't think of the pain he was putting his friend through.

But like you said that's why we have Fanfic's to fix things up and enjoy where they go. ;)

You make good points. Clark was raised to fear his powers to some extent, but remember, the world of Smallville was darker than the comics version. Certain people finding out about Clark's 'difference' would have been a disaster for him. In an alternate timeline in the comics, his rocket was found by Government agents and he lived a loveless, sterile childhood as a lab rat. That was one of the fears the Kents had for him.

Yes, Lex had the right to be frustrated at being lied to, but it was Clark's secret, and therefore his decision whether or not to tell him. Remember, Clark was very young when he first met Lex and if he'd been more mature, their relationship could have gone another way. And Lionel is a huge X factor in all this. Chloe and Pete knowing didn't present a big danger. Lex knowing could have. Clark didn't know and chose not to risk it. Because as much as I enjoy the scenario of Clark telling Lex early on and Lex becoming a protector, what if his father found out? Or Lex thought what was best for Clark was something that Clark didn't want? Lex, (like Clark), is not perfect. He can be arrogant and self-centered, especially when his enthusiasm for SCIENCE comes out. :) And considering the way Lex turned out (an evil supervillain after all), perhaps Clark was right to hold off in telling him. The main point is, it's Clark's secret to tell, not Lex's right to know. And Clark not telling him did put a strain on the relationship. Sometimes the very young make mistakes.

            1. You right on that I had secrets that could hurt me and someone I loved and since I was young I trusted the wrong people at the end I learned that the ones I thought could protect me where the ones that could hurt me the most. I sympathize with Clark his secret could have hurt a lot of people if the wrong person found out. And yes you are right Lex did not respect Clark's rights to keep his own secrets. And yeah Lionel is a big factor since he knew from the beginning that Clark was not the Kent's real son but adopted. I actually like the parts that have been written to show them reuniting after years of being enemies or a part. But like you said a lot of different scenarios have been made of how Superman was raised but at all the ones i love the most in the ones where the Kent's find him and give him a home.

Well I am going to let you go on this marvelous discussion, let me know when you write something else. I your devoted Fan....

I enjoyed our discussion, too! It's good to hear what other people have to say on certain fannish issues. Smallville is always good for discussions! :)
