Comment on Tharkay in Istanbul

  1. You know, for the longest time I simply had Sara Maden grouped with those who'd caused Tharkay pain (though in her case it was somewhat unintentional). I felt, at best, ambivalent towards her as a character. I understood that there were familial responsibilities and cultural barriers that prevented their being together, but I never really grasped the depth of it all (or even the politics behind it). This fic has shown a lot of light on dynamics between Tharkay and the Maden family. Not only was this entertaining (well, in a "I need to drown my sorrow in a big glass of whatever alcohol I have on hand" kind of way) it was also educational, which isn't something I often find in fanfic, so thank you for taking time to write this. As always, your skill at creating great atmosphere without over use of wording is extremely enviable. I can't wait to see what else you'll add to this fandom!

    1. Thank you so much--this is exactly why I wrote this fic. I was thrilled to read your comment! Not sure where I'll go next with Temeraire fic: I'm reading a lot of Avengers fic (hence Maden 'debriefing' Tharkay and Sara's 'evasive maneuvers'). Hawkeye reminds me of Tharkay (so Phil Coulson is his Laurence).
