Comment on A Very Pretty Monster

  1. An update! Okay that's one less person for Merlin to hide from. Arthur is developing nicely both as a person and a king, while Merlin... is still oddly stuck in his ways. Arthur has accepted magic and the bond better than Merlin.

Probably because he is too used to hiding, but it looks too much like he avoids responsibility. He really has a problem with obedience or simply too stubborn, no wonder Gaius refrain that bit from Merlin, he knows he needs Gaius, but not willing to listen to him, even Arthur is better than that. In that light, Merlin still looks juvenile compared to Arthur, highlighting how young and inexperienced he is... which is dangerous for someone so strong and it would not help if he ignores his own potential.

    1. This comment made me very happy. Yes! Merlin is used to hiding and that is a problem he is going to have to face. I've never seen Gauis as very good at helping Merlin's self-confidence. A big part of that is the need for secrecy and that Gauis has secrets of his own. But things are changing and Arthur will have to help Merlin with those changes. Thanks for commenting. :-)

      2. You know when I re watched the episode one of series one I couldn't help but think Gaius was afraid of Merlin and trying to push him into serving Arthur as he does Uther.

        1. Looking at it from Tails' medieval lens of servitude makes a lot of sense. Gaius had been a servant in Uther's interest for so long, the only way he could advise Merlin was in the same capacity.
