Seriously you're killing me here. Martin with such low self esteem that he can't possibly think that anyone could want him just the way he is. Jumping through hoops to try to change, to become what he thinks Theresa wants, and really only doing that because of some warped notion of what his life 'should' be (have they broken up at this stage? Please tell me the wedding is off.) And through it all still being drawn to Douglas because somewhere deep down he know that Douglas is who he needs. There had better be oodles of fluff at the end of this to compensate for all the angst! *stern face*
There had better be oodles of fluff at the end of this to compensate for all the angst! There will be! *points to the 'happy ending' tag* I absolutely, unequivocally promise you that it all ends well :)
But Martin being Martin, he has to go through some stuff first... The wedding is totally off at this stage, it'll be clearer in the next chapter because in this one Martin's thoughts are pretty muddled but yes, they have broken up. I personally don't think that Martin and Theresa would work out because Theresa is so idealised, she seems so good she is perfect, I mean, she's a literal princess that loves everything Martin does, she doesn't seem to have a single flaw. And Martin is very much not perfect and very aware of it, so I have Martin here work at it constantly to measure up, what he feels he should do in order to be loved. But of course that's incredibly draining and no one can keep that up... But it'll help him realise that real love does not happen that way, but rather is someone who knows you very well and wants you exactly the way you are, flaws and all ;)
