Why is it that when a fanfic character refers to "his witch," it sounds endearing and proud, but when a real life male refers to "his woman," it sounds offensive?
I think its to do with the containment factor of fiction. It gives you a platform to enjoy something in total isolation from real life. Much like possessive/ jealous partners - interesting in fic, horrific in real life.
I think, in my mind, it may also have something to do with Hermione being a Muggleborn. When a man calls her his witch, it's acknowledging that she is every bit as much a witch as the others.
I'll have to pay attention to whether I feel fondly about it in relation to Ginny or Pansy or Luna.
