Comment on Haruno [discontinued but I HAVE A REWRITE]

  1. I've enjoyed this so far, but I have.... I don't even know if it's "criticism", exactly, more like just a question of differing values, I guess?

Tbh I came out feeling like Kakashi is much more wrong than Sakura here for sometimes suddenly deciding to be Mr. Responsible and pull rank to lay down the law, but Only When it's convenient for him and Only When he gets to look condescendingly wise and dominant in front of a subordinate, since apparently Naruto staying out for a long ass time just to train is totally fine with him, which sends the vibe that he wouldn't treat Naruto or Sasuke this way if it were them doing it. And really, in canon, the only time his adult self ever really comes off as this much of a stickler or a hardass is when Sasuke used Chidori against Naruto and was running a risk of leaving the village. (Plus, with you pointing out how Kakashi knows how sketchy this country is too, it kind of reflects poorly on him that he would agree to let his team risk this mission)

I also wouldn't have actually picked up on there being anything all that self-serving or conceited when it comes to Sakura helping the sick if you hadn't said it in the author's notes, and even then... I don't know if this just means I'm a weird person, but beyond her disobedience in and of itself, I actually don't see what the big deal is? It just makes her seem like, well, a person with normal levels of moral nuance. The net result was still that she helped a number of people and expected nothing in return. Besides that, I don't feel it's objectionable for someone to hear about the issues of strangers once, then only act after they've had repeat exposure and gathered more info and perspective. That's just... normal, in my view. Realistically, I think there's always a kernel of something slightly self-serving in any ""selfless"" action, and that in many cases that's not actually grounds for fair critique of a person's morality. I just think that's how humans are. After all, the act of doing it is still bringing you some personal sense of satisfaction or purpose, even if you did do it "just to help". In my view, it'd only be selfish enough to be an issue if your personal motivations are significantly outweighing everything else.

The pears are more understandable, but even then, I thought it was a reasonable thing to do under the circumstances. (Again, I'm left wondering if I'm actually just a morally questionable person) Tazuna's been more selfish than her, and still strikes me as someone who is actually in a position of debt to her. The only reason she's there at all is that he lied about the mission, and in doing so, endangered her life to a point beyond anything she was originally expecting. Besides that, pears wouldn't even constitute a vital staple food.

I do like the conspiracy that they got this mission to emotionally manipulate them though, that's some Good Shit right there. I also like how Naruto and Sakura interact, and I like that you made Sasuke less approving of Kakashi's Sharingan.

    1. hi! I'm so glad you've picked up on these things bc that was sort of the whole point lol! i feel like you're very philosophical here!

you're definitely right that sakura gets treated differently to sasuke and naruto and those reasons won't be disclosed just yet, BUT i do see where you're coming from how kakashi is more of a stickler for rules and that comes from my interpretation and characterization of him as this will DIRECTLY correlate to how he treats them so yes they're both in the wrong (it's up to you who is more wrong). his weird role will be explained when it comes into the plot so dont worry!

and sakura being self-serving - this is more of a characterization i'm still threading in. none of these actions prove she's selfish at all and i'm working towards building the progression up showing more of these characteristics in the future as the author's notes are just a place for me to rant and ramble so you can probably disregard that for now lol.

and the pears - you're reading this exactly how i want you to because that would be sakura's reasoning too lol. but what sakura fails to see is that tazuna didn't want the children on the mission anyway (whether you read that as concern for the children or concern for his own safety is up to you) and tazuna wants to protect his family too and arguably sakura would make that same risk as he is for her mother. either way trading her own money for someone else's food (who is also struggling for food btw) is a very morally grey action and is meant to collect different responses because everyone has a different moral compass and that's great and you're giving the exact sort of response i really wanted from this fic so thank you!

and the conspiracy... it always rubbed me the wrong way how convenient that mission was - it also rubs me the wrong way how twelve year olds can know how to kill people and how prodigies could be jounin by age 12 and have a kill count into the triple digits; it'll rub tsunade the wrong way too but i won't say too much about that.

thanks for your input and point of view! it really put a smile on my face that you were willing to write so much for me!
