Comment on Navigating Close Encounters of an Idiot Kind

  1. DAMN. DAMNNNN. You’re fast LOL.

Nice tension between Nav and Kat. Interesting how Kat still gave her the begrudging thanks, that just goes to show just how much of an emphasis height is given. In a way, it’s kinda sad. Their whole society is so toxic and vile and yet we love it at the same time. That and it’s just so bizarre too.

And the whole interaction with Pax and Nav... LMFAO, I loved it. I laughed out loud when she asked to touch Nav. Pax is definitely more laid back and understanding towards defectives. In a way, she’s kinda fascinated by them and is curious about all the different types that there are. She is a scientist and she likes to fix and understand things. She’s pretty insecure herself because she knows she can’t be having these feelings for Red. She pities defects and also treads cautiously because she works directly on and with the Control Brains too.

I really like what you did with Red and that growling while he dealt with Lyn. It’s a cool touch and offers more of an insight into Irken biology and behavior. There are some things that they do and feel that can’t be weeded out or suppressed by their PAKs. Very intimidating and I clearly imagined that all too well.

I’m curious about the General of Papillion as well! I’m eager to see what you do with him and how this’ll be expanded upon. You definitely have me curious about what exact role you have planned for him. Also if you don’t remember much about the series, just go on YouTube and watch some episodes if they’re available! That can help you write. I also recommend checking out the IZ wiki, it’s something to go by and I sometimes look up info on there too if I’m unsure about something. I love what you’re doing, keep it up and thank you!

    1. I got exicted and wanted to write more of Nav and her seeing everything go down!

It's a real struggle, that small Irkens are trying their hardest to get the Tallest to see them, so it would likely apply to the next tallest Irkens as well. Personality and visible defects are add to this and when it comes down to Nav, smaller Irkens what her to praise them like the Tallest should. But they see her defect and while they aren't to happy over it they still want any praise from tall Irkens!

When I wrote Pax and Nav interacting between them I saw Pax as a polite Irken and when seeing a strange defect she would be all over it. Working with the CB she must see many defects (heights, eye color, ones like zim) so when she comes close to one I like to think she wants to study it. Figure it out and how it affects the host! (Pax made a face because she sounded rude to Nav. But I think she would be on friendly terms with Nav)

I like to think that they have some more 'primal' biology and behavior at times. (Nav as a smeet, and seen here with Red) But the Tallest has the deepest and loudest of vocal chords that once it is heard all Irkens are just the slightest more submissive. But with Nav, since her sensors are coiled/curly those same encoded genes are disturbed and she isn't as easy to bend. They take awhile for the social cue to kick in and even then she's like, "huh?"

There will be more of those from Papillion and the story behind the General! I also have so MANY tabs open some old videos of the show (shame most are blocked in my country, which is weird because I remember all episodes airing on TV) but thank you for the wiki link! I forgot there's a wiki for the show, I might also link my tumblr for any comics I might doodle of the stories!

      1. It’s so ingrained into them, it’s instinct more than anything else. The see above Irken taller than them and it’s something more complicated and deeper than the brainwashing they’re all subjected to. Heck, they’ve probably been super respectful and respective of taller Irken long before the Empire.

Exactly. Pax is a scientist and that’s what she does and she realizes certain defects are more effective than others. And the taller you are, the more likely you are able to get away with being defective. If you’re short and defective, then you’re super liable to an existence evaluation/being culled. Double standards!

It’s a really good headcanon! I like it! I think it’s totally viable and it’s some cool world building. It’s a very neat touch!

Yeah trust me, the wiki is your friend! Don’t be afraid to use it and you’re always free to ask me about a question you may have too. I don’t know everything about the shoe and whatnot but I’ll try! And hey no rush! Take your time!
