I suppose is some twisted way, Sunny becoming unsure of reality and eventually forgetting his role in Mari's death would eventually lead to what Spirit Mari would want - Sunny moving on. Both Omori and Mari would also kind of get what they wanted. Omori's effort to suppress the truth would be successful, the ultimate form of protection. Mari would see Sunny moving on from the past.
Of course, the most important thing would still be missing. The game revolves around forgiveness, which includes forgiving oneself. Forgetting is just not the same. Some self-loathing would still be there, even on the unconscious level.
When it comes to spirit mari I feel like she would more want sunny to be safe and actually live a life given the circumstances changed drastically from the game. In game sunny not only accidentally killed her but hanged her and was massive traumatized for it here it only got to the accident but the aftereffects are so much worse. You'r a child and you killed your sister while having an argument and now your locked up in your room slowly dying over four years. Omori himself in this timeline is a more needed entity and his duty to even if he could only mitigate the damage here.
Though on the theme of forgiveness the author could do it from the perspective of mari since it would make thematic sense. In her desire for perfection and her unwillingness to go easy on sunny she not only cause him to accidentally kill her she made his life hell on earth. While in the original her helping was all about stopping sunny from being forever stagnate and suppressing the truth her goals would be more akin to soothing his poor frayed mind. Think about were definitely not getting anything from the parents and given everything mari is the only one who knows the truth anymore other than omori and given sunny's current state and what i've said previously about the truth she cant exactly fight one of the few people who might keep sunny from falling under permeant mental patient status. Basically since she's destroyed sunny even if not on purpose or even directly having a few chapters on helping him recover is important if you want to keep the theme from the game. Though on the self hatred part if it ever comes up I see it more like the hatred you feel when you cant get something right given this whole thing started from him not living up to mari's insane standards we might get the insecure feeling of him not living up to certain standards and that means he doesn't deserve the love everyone tries to give him.
Thank you it came up with several ideas I had while waiting for the update. Some of them were things like that house is never gonna get sold cause who wants to live in some place people not only died but got tortured in. Man when hero finds out he's gonna have a panic attack given he could have easily missed that newspaper. The amount of codependency is gonna be insane and is gonna be heart breaking when his old friends find out. Sunny is gonna have alot of problems while recovering and all kinds of complications all an emotional gut punch.
