Hey, I'm a bit of a lurker on here. And yes my name is Ed ;) or Eddie as I'm usually called. I couldn't really think of a good name on here so screw it I'll just go with my nickname for my guest name.
Anyway, I actually got back in CB as the result of the Netflix series airing their live action version of it and it got me back into the lore and the story as well. I haven't watched Bebop since I was in early high school. Getting back into CB I immediately fell back in love with all of the main characters especially Ed because she is just so innocent and pure for this world. Whether it's our world right now or the world in the CB universe. And plus, she's super cute even if she acts a bit immature for her age. I don't know, I'm not a girl but when we were around Edward's age at 12 or 13, most kids I'm pretty sure didn't act that way. They were either those edgy teenagers that tried way too hard to fit in or something like that. I get it she grew up in different circumstances living in a post-apocalyptic Earth, but I'm just saying most kids around her age would probably think of her as way too immature for a 13-year-old. Sort of on a side note and I hope this doesn't come across as looking too deep into Ed's background, but I read on TV tropes that speculated that Ed might be on the Autism spectrum. Some Tumblr blogs have said the same thing. I get that she grew up as a wild child so it kind of does explain some of her reasons but she also grew up under the care of a daycare center and at an orphanage with other kids, so she wasn't a complete wild child. Anyway, I'm rambling too much on that my apologies.
Growing up I could relate to Ed in a certain way in the sense that I was somewhat of a loner type and kind of am today (which doesn't help given the Covid fiasco right now) so I share a somewhat similar trait as her. Difference is I'm more a history geek while she's good with computers so I wouldn't know a single thing about hacking. (Hi, feds)
Anyway, keep up the great work. I'm so glad that I found this website. I used to browse on fanfiction.net for a while reading up some CB back in like 2010 or 2011. I remember there being a story on fanfiction back in early 2011 involving Faye and Ed with Faye acting like a surrogate mother but I don't remember the rest of the details. It's been a decade since I read about that story. It looks like it might have been deleted. So, I'm glad that I found archiveofourown.org for all of my CB cravings. It's helping me get by this month considering that I had a friend that just got out of quarantine and had to go to the hospital because of Covid pneumonia. :/ He's doing better thankfully but this has helped me tremendously for the month of December.
Ed is such an interesting character and I love her for all her eccentricities. I don't know if she comes across as immature (to me at least) so much as eccentric, but yes, I think a lot of 13-year-olds would not know what to do with Ed if they met her in real life! I've seen a lot of kids that age these days trying to grow up too fast and I can confirm (as a girl) that when I was Ed's age, though I definitely wasn't so unusual, I was certainly more into being a kid than an adult. And more into being a "tomboy." I have seen speculation that Ed's on the Autism spectrum. *shrugs* I didn't really think of her that way when I watched the show, but I can see where people might get that vibe. And that's the cool part of viewer interpretation letting all of us watch the same thing and come away with different views and ideas ;)
I suppose some people might call me a bit of a loner, but I prefer a small, close friend group to a larger one, personally. I also love found family, which is one of the reasons I enjoy Bebop so much.
Thanks! I definitely plan to write more on this one! I used to write a lot on fanfiction.net back in my high school days, but I've mostly moved to AO3 now. It's just got a lot more potential, though there are things I like about FF (like the ability to PM people). If you're into Cowboy Bebop fics, I'd highly recommend Shadowcrest Nightingale's stories. She does a lot of adventure and action. If you're looking for some more Spike/Faye shipping, Moira_Lathal has some good stuff, too.
Sorry to hear about your friend, but glad to hear he's doing better. I hope he continues to recover and do well!

Thank you for your support with regard to my friend. He's doing better last time I talked to him which was on New Year's Day. It's a good thing that the Covid pneumonia did not progress into acute pneumonia, and he was only at the hospital for a few hours.
I think having a 13-year-old girl who is eccentric and abit childish at times is far better than how some kids act in real life. Some kids around her age pardon my French can be real assholes downright cruel. My sister has work with them sometimes and it can suck for her.
I suppose the reason why I brought up the autism angle is because I myself was diagnosed with ASD when I was younger but nowadays it rarely defines me and it's not really my identity. I just thought it was an interesting observation that she might be on the spectrum not because of her eccentric personality (since anyone can have an eccentric personality and not have autism) but I guess based on her movements, her rocking back and forth and other quirks. Perhaps I'm looking way too deep into since this was made in the late 1990s and I do highly doubt that the creator of Bebop wrote Ed as an autistic character. But as you said that's what's interesting about Bebop you can leave it up to interpretation for any of the characters. :)
I am familiar with Shadowcrest Nightingale and Moira_Lathal as well. They are also very good at keeping the fandom alive on here and so is Aldrean Treu Peri as well. I'm very impressed. It's definitely got me back into the Bebop mode even if I really don't care much for anime in general.
Keep up the good work and see ya around Space Cowgirl and have some goddamn faith. Just one more score, we'll take a little bit from Uncle Sam and then we are off to Tahiti lol. Sorry I just had to throw in a Red Dead 2 reference. (Wouldn't be surprised if someone tries to a do a Bebop Red Dead crossover with good old Dutch's gang and the Bebop crew).
Yeah, for sure ;) Covid seriously sucks. :/ My husband's dad had covid that turned into pnuemonia (he's ok now) but it was pretty scary for a while
I find that child characters in shows/movies/books, what-have-you are always interesting. It's sometimes hardest to capture the spirit of a child in a way that people find "accurate" precisely because children can be so vastly different from each other. I don't know what the creator's intentions with Ed were, but there's probably some interviews out there somewhere! Don't know if you're much of an Avatar Last Airbender fan, but there's a lot of speculation that Zuko might be on the spectrum as well. I always find fan theory intriguing ;)
Yes, I've read some of Adrean Treu Peri's work and we've chatted as well! The Bebop fandom, in my experience, has some pretty cool people. Haha, I like anime, but I'm somewhat eccentric in my tastes. I tend to like older anime like Bebop, or Trigun over newer stuff.
Ah, yes, I love Red Dead Redemption 2! Hands down one of my favorite video games. That would be an incredibly interesting crossover! I'm not quite sure what that would look like, but there'd be a mess either way, lol. I imagine Spike and Dutch wouldn't get along very well.
