Comment on Halfway to the Sky

  1. This story holds such a special place in my heart, and I'm happy to finally have the energy to comment again. Everyone in the College coming together to be kind to Sarel in his last days there is so touching - it's abundantly clear how much they're going to miss him! Poor Colette!

As ever, I'm blown away by the care and detail you put into writing Sarel. He's such a unique character and yet with every line of dialogue or action he takes I think yes, that is exactly how a Falmer child raised by a wizard would behave. Stern Aiden is equally delightful even though I want to shake some sense into him. Get those shoes outta here man!

The bridge crossing scene was terrifying and so well-described: I could well and truly taste the fear when Sarel froze up and didn't believe he could go another step.

Ohhh and Harukar my beloved. I love looking back at all the little details that suggest his vampirism.

Sarel on a horse, aahh! After so many stories where experienced riders just hop on and off their mounts like it's a merry-go-round, reading the perspective of a blind child riding for the first time is so interesting.

This is such a beautiful, one-of-a-kind tale — thank you so much for sharing it with us!

    1. Aaahhhh Babble! Thank you so much for such a sweet comment! I'm happy you have the energy, too! (But also, man do I know the feeling of just not having it).

I've enjoyed writing from Sarel's perspective so much. It really forces me to use my brain muscles and think in ways I'm not used to thinking. But he's such a relatable little kid, even if I can't relate to a huge chunk of what makes him him.

Thanks again for leaving such lovely comments!
