Ah, more Murtagh skiing! Also good worldbuilding – Urgal traditions around scars and spirits attracted to magic. . it fits well with the books but is still new, a good blend. And is awesome and sad simultaneously, how rare it is for Thorn to be treated as a real person – sure the courts experiences over 100 years with the dragons who lost their name / were mad Shruikan is much stronger than any different interaction they could have with Thorn in about a year– and few dragons would be that keen on opening their mind to just any courtier. And we get some Bachel hints. I like it, that Murtagh trusts his guide not really, but he is pragmatic about it all. I also like the details about the aging of riders – and that it is still a weird thing for Murtagh, but not as much as for Eragon – maybe because Murtagh has not really family or friends who he will outlive or is just too revived about his survival after the war and his freedom now to think so long into the future and maybe the concept is less alien to him with Morzan as a father and close contact to Galbatorix. Sure that Galbi aged a bit more after the grief and being cut of from the magic of his dragon – but that is maybe for the better: would be too weird for his poor subject if he looked 25 and he liked it so much talking about himself as everyone’s wise father, so he better does not look too young.
Also the fact that Erzhal has a “strange” accent, that reminds him of Galbatorix, but he developed the ability to suppress such thought –I see so much great implications there !- I guess this art to suppress too uncomfortable memories would be a necessity in the capital. I picture the king like the type of person, who would punish Murtagh when he rebelled, but otherwise hold up the “amical” Lord/vassal or student/teacher interaction on all other occasions – not as a kind of ruse, but because just both is part of his character. And Murtagh, to not show weakness/ be punished for being impolite/ to keep it more bearable for himself, would play along as far as he could while suppressing the memory that the person who kindly taught him useful magic or patiently answers his questions over dinner also tortured and enslaved him. But maybe that is just my weird headcanon.
Great, the we hear the tale of someone who chose to hide with no real shame! Going north seems like a perfectly reasonable choice for Erzhal. Aww, yes Tornac is mentioned and a toast!
