that's literally how fics are made tho, you take the idea of characters and context and change it to fit a different plotline. salt fics usually are that, a thing that didn't happen in that extend and making it a lot worse which is so fricking good to read some of the time! :D
im not saying you're wrong about how salt fics are written, they're usually over the top but that's why people love them. and people who don't can easily avoid them by all the salt/bashing tags.
i don't stan them who don't use the right tags tho, those are annoying yes, you never know what it is until you read it. like personally i was in a mood of some fluff but ended up with angst with a bad ending. in salt fic tags i found this complaining about salt fics because you personally don't like them which is a similar feeling to find a salt fic while looking for a ship fic (i am very specific about my searches/tagging, complete works only with no crossovers and characters i want to see, either newest to oldest or word count) so i wasn't expecting a salty fic about people living their best lives writing/reading salty fics
so i would suggest excluding salt tags while searching if you don't like it this much, like you said "don't like don't read" which i wholeheartedly agree, don't read things you don't like instead of complaining about them if they're not harming anyone other than fiction people lol (aka take your own advice) i ended up being a bit salty towards the end, oops ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I did not use salt tags most of them are either sugar tags which is the opposite of salt or character tags the only ones which I see could be considered salt tags are the Lila being exposed one and Gabriel is a bad parent and I admit stories that stories that use those tags are usually salt stories but not all of them and I think the title makes it pretty clear what the subject is but if I have unintentionally mislead you I apologize
I have read some stories that salt the show itself even when they aren't salt stories saying it's terrible, this decision the creators made is stupid and so on and so forth and they are just so spiteful it ruins the story and can put you in a bad mood
and there are some real life effects to these stories some stories salt Thomas Astruc a real life person which is really morally dubious and also there's the risk of the fandom being labelled a "toxic fandom" which can cause negative backlash to the show and the people who like it
I did not mean to offend anyone when I wrote this story it just was something I really felt needed to be said and judging by the comments I'm not the only one who thinks so but if you really think it comes across as salt to salt stories I will add that as as tag
oh no,i wasn't saying you tag it wrong or it wasn't obvious what this was, i read it because curiosity lol so wasn't misleading. but i was searching for salt stories so i guess ao3 kinda- push this there since i forgot to add salt tag and searched salt first, adding the fandom and stuff later because the word salt is all around the place lol
and i can definitely understand your frustration about some authors adding salt in a non-salt fic or salting a bit too much lol. hate it when you start a nice looking story but the author ruins it by an unexpected salt or angst that wasn't tagged/explained right
although i agree with a lot of things people think about Thomas Astruc it is unnecessary to oversalt it and go too much with unkind words (i mean the guy victim blames and doesn't acknowledges a lot of harmful/wrong things he did/does/thinks but no need to take it too far and stood to his level)
just wanted to say that people can and do like salt fics (or any other fic) and that's okay, it's not a bad thing even if some people doesn't enjoy them. this just came across as a bit like "i don't like salt fics because the actual situation in the show isn't as bad as how salt authors write their own stories" when you think about this as just fictional stories about fictional characters and people's love for angst and salt, saying that the source material isn't like that is like saying "this isn't how canon is, these characters wouldn't act like in this au" to a regular fanfiction you read
not offended at all btw, i just like a good debate like conversation and taking about a topic with people who have a different opinion as long as it doesn't turn into a petty fight lol
also off topic but about Chloe- "I know Zoé is kind of a stand in for chloé but she never really did enough for a convincing redemption (maybe that will still happen in the future if her worried face in the season 4 finale is any indication but that's not really relevant)" (didn't saw anything about their names personally so not adding that part)
our biggest problem with Thomas about Chloe and Zoe is he openly hates Chloe and kinda added Zoe as a replacement just because a lot of people loved Chloe and such, and he refuses to acknowledge Chloe's obvious trauma and abandonment issues and had implied (or straight up said, i don't remember) that Chloe can't have trauma because "Zoe has the same mom and she's just fine" (which is wrong in many ways like how they both have issues caused by their parents except it's different for them both and we can't expect the same response to trauma from different people) Chloe almost did have a redemption arc btw, he just didn't want Chloe to have a redemption and ruined it with miracle queen. he openly let us know that "Chloe is a bully and can't be redeemed, fucking hate her already, she was inspired by my bully and i can't move on and accept that middle/high school bullies aren't always evil psychopaths from hell" (basic translation from a lot of different statements and some creative writing from my side XD)
in short, we'll most likely never get Chloe redemption arc that she deserves just because Thomas didn't like that we love Chloe. he even turned Sabrina and Chloe's slowly getting a bit better friendship to sl*v*ry basically. it wasn't the best relationship before sure but they cared for each other at least, do roleplaying/cosplaying and spend time together. you can't tell me that wasn't at least something close to care and the newer version of their not-relationship-relationship was how it always was
most salt about Zoe i saw is how she's just a replacement for Chloe because Thomas hates Chloe or how her "character" which is being nice and opposite of Chloe (not really a character and just trying to make us love and care for her, forgetting all about Chloe) isn't enough of a character to go from, if it were a "show not tell" in her introduction and they didn't tell us everything as "here, feel bad for her, detailed story of life of a rando you don't know" it would be so much better, it would be good writing tho and we don't have that in miraculous that much (fandom stuff are great tho, I'm talking about the show)-
i do love Chloe and they did our gal dirty with her redemption arc going down the drain and a creator who blocks fans because they asked/told something he doesn't like, overall chaos and too much on Mari's plate that she can't think straight, and a kitty who has no outlet that he can talk his feelings with unlike mari and a big lack of communication overall (not gonna talk about obsession/stalker issue but there's that too-)
