Fanfic bookbinding sounds very interesting. Reminds me of when my Stargate SG-1 writing groups were busily putting together zines with original stories we did for it. We didn't actually put it together but had a special person who was part of our group doing so. This was an actual business for her and she stills sells zines under her ancientsgate website. We sold them sometimes as charities zines too, going toward to help one of our own group out, etc. Anyway sounds cool.
I was never able to order zines, but I was always so jealous! Bookbinding is definitely one of my most rewarding hobbies, and a lot of fun as well. One of my first projects was one of my favorite Stargate SG-1 series from way back when: https://missaphelion.tumblr.com/post/664444453611798528/i-wanted-to-do-a-binding-for-a-stargate-sg-1
It's so neat to just grab it off a shelf when I want to reread it now.
I went to the link and I think it's terrific that you're able to create work like this! I have a favorite cozy mystery series devoted to a bookbinding sleuth too. It's the Bibliophile Mysteries and the writer does it in real life too so she knows what she's talking about. I'm crafty and have done lots of different crafts but I'm also an artist. I posted my portrait of Nightwing on the Nightwing site and 2 others. Normally, I also do cartooning but portraits in black and white are what I love most. But what you're doing, I would think you have to have special equipment for. All my Stargate books are either in a giant container under my bed or stacked high in my cupboard as I don't have the shelving space. I actually sold a few older zines I stopped re-reading to some group members and have 2 more up for grabs plus an original script someone gave me as a present they got at a con. No takers so far on these ones. Now only if I had the time I feel like re-reading one now. LOL!
I have gotten some equipment now, but at first I was doing it without and you can still make them! Only required pieces are printer, paper, some book cloth (or decorative paper and book tape), Elmer's or other pva glue, cardboard, needle and waxed thread. The rest you can always work around and tend to just make the process easier, but not required! There is a discord for fanfic binding called renege publishing if you're ever interested!
Okay, thanks for telling me. If I ever have the time to get into more craft work, I'll look into it. Those mysteries I mentioned, actually had me kind of interested to begin with.
