Comment on Oh, but the Years Have Been Long

  1. A soft, quiet end to a long, harsh journey. While everything isn't quite shored up - there are definitely talks to be had and consequences left unattended for years to be sorted out - things are finally given the chance to calm down, and for everyone to breath. Everyone who lost their memories in the present will be given an opportunity to mourn the years they lost, and everyone trapped in the past, Ingo especially, will be allowed to grieve for the *life* they lost.

I love everyone being so close now that they know what, and who, they've been missing this entire time. It was probably hard to really interact with your friends when the cognitive dissonance rang with your every interaction with them - because there's *something missing*. There's, uh, probably going to be some separation anxiety to unlearn, rip 😔

That said, I have 0 idea what could take 7 more chapters to resolve, but am very excited to find out! Will we see what Emmet's mysterious lead was? Will we find out what was so catastrophic to come to pass that the gods decided to rewrite the fabric of the universe just to stop people from coming to them for answers? Will said gods now answer for their violent invasion of privacy and agency? We shall see, or we wont't. I can't wait to see where this goes :]

    1. Genuinely I was out here like 'It's been so long where do I go from here?' and the answer was clearly to make it soft. I tried to balance it, capturing some of that unresolved lingering tension in Ingo's narrative while focusing as much on just how much they've all been bowled over by remembering in the way they just had to be near each other. Exactly as you said, up until now there's been this layer of cognitive dissonance. I tried to convey it with Emmet, who knew/felt that he loved Ingo (so much so that he's been terrified of him leaving before he even really knows him) but also felt so adrift in the sense that Ingo was never there in his memories.

Very much so, re: getting the chance to mourn. Ingo especially, who had a whole different arc here when this story was originally planned, just deserves to breathe and process. Of course there will still be /plot/, but there will also be space for just that hard earned respite. Which is why it's so funny to me in comments curious about how there's still so many chapters, because I could spent ages on just that recovery, but there's also more story/conflict to finalize as well :) So very happy to have you along for the ride!!
