    i think my only issue with this is that everyone expects Ruby to grit her teeth and bear with insults that her shorter fuse of a sister would have flown off the handle for, and that's not only unreasonable but hypocritical, and in any other setting - or story, even - that kind of dichotomy would fester pure resentment in literally anyone. the fact that Ruby just grins and bears with it is so far beyond unrealistic it circles right back around to almost being realistic.

    and the way Weiss is literally slinging insults? it...that's not how she is. if she insults you it's biting and with good reason. even in the show, with ruby being childish in every way, the worst thing she called her was a dolt, and that later became a term of affection! it's just...the way she slings insults left and right paints her as being childish as ruby in canon, and that's just not Weiss.

    then there's the previous maidens in her head literally causing her almost blinding pain on a semi-regular basis. it's been almost, what, ten years? of her having this power and them being in her head. and you're telling me that, in ten years, they didn't once come to the conclusion that, maybe, they should tone it down so as not to get their newest host killed? you know, because splitting headaches aren't exactly great signs? ten years and not once did they come to the conclusion that, to avoid bringing ruby pain, they should only talk three or four people a go? really??

    and lastly, ruby is right. stop treating her like she's not. she just wants to slink along life with her head down and on her lonesome, literally having learned her lesson from the dozens of times the previous maidens had been betrayed or double-crossed. so the way she tries not to raise a fuss shouldn't be a point of contention here. it makes sense, to her at least, that she wants to be alone and safe. so why do even the voices in her head, the same ones that hammered home the idea of staying alone and safe and never trusting anyone, admonish her when she works towards exactly that goal??

    just pointing out the issues, only a few, that i spotted with a cursory glance. not flaming or anything, just saying that right now everything's all over the place and it makes it hard to want to keep reading.

      Thank you for the comment! You made some great points. I feel like in the show, Ruby is someone who places a lot of value on respect. If you watch the first few episodes, she does spend a lot of time insulting people for perceived slights, and someone ignoring her when she wants their respect didn’t feel too out of character when I was writing.

      I remember writing something about the chorus not talking during combat, but it’s entirely possible that was in an early draft. Thanks for the heads up. :)

      And lastly, it was just Summer who was disappointed with Ruby for nearly getting Weiss killed. Summer wants to help grow Ruby out of the self centered mindset she’s in, grow her into a proper huntress who wants to help people. Are either of them wrong, per se? Probably not. But yeah, most of the chorus is team “Ruby should run far far away and hide.” My bad for not accurately communicating that.
