Comment on The Unlikely Gryffindor

  1. I didn't really think about Lily, but maybe some kind of bird. (Owl?)
Honestly not surprised; even with Sev's wunderkindness with potions, it's a pretty complicated thing and would take time to figure out.
Unless said kid had a reason to learn said spell, you mean. (Wasn't Harry in his third year?)

    1. Yeah, Harry was in his third year, but what with Lockhart being a total imbecile, they didn't learn very much in his class (if anything). It was Snape who taught them the Disarming charm in the short-lived duel club. Which means that Harry and the others were basically a year behind in DADA when they entered their third year. Snape wasn't TOO far off when he said he would have expected a first-year to identify a werewolf. They were essentially in their second year--for DADA--and only Hermione could do so.

That being said...I expect that the other lessons went more or less as planned, so the second year wasn't an entire waste.

I like the idea of Lily as a bird. I'd kind of toyed with Snape as one, but both could work. I'll see where my writing and characters take me.

Oh, and when Harry taught the Patronus charm in DA, I think he was mostly teaching fellow fifth years and some fourth years. If I recall correctly, almost everyone produced SOMETHING, and a number produced a corporal patronus. This was, of course, without any dementors or Bogart-Dementors to fight against. On Harry's very first attempt WITHOUT a Bogart-Dementor, he produced mist.

      1. You mean other than the guy's favorite color? (Almost ruined lilac flowers for me, the twat.)
All good points. I'll admit it's been a while since I read the books, so I'm definitely not the expert here.
I'll look forward to whatever you end up doing with them, in due time.
