    Ohhhhh hohohoho interesting.

    I don't know if this is what you were going for but my image of Katarina in this chapter is something like this:

    Katarina: *has been living with the expectation that the FL routes are the set destinies of the world*

    Katarina: *sees something definitely NOT in any of the routes*

    Katarina: *Katarina.exe has stopped working, please reboot*

    And I really like the bit about Mary flaring that she does not answer to Duchess Claes. Oh, man, a battle of wills between Mary and Miridiana would be something. Really something.

      (That's definitely along the lines of what I was going for with Katarina. It's just a cute concept and a good way to help nudge her along.)

      I can absolutely see Mary deferring to Milidiana when they're in alignment, but when they're not - well, Mary is coming into her own, as she's been doing for the last several years.
