   I'll help here, there was a King Aerys the first on the Iron throne at this time, and an Aenys Blackfyre. Martin's kind of repetitive with Valyrian names, though to be fair so were the Romans with their naming system and Valyria seems to be partially based off Roma.

         He died in 209 if memory serves. So yes, ten years passed and ten years into the reign of Aerys the "mystic".

      Yeah, that was sort of how it happened with a Hedge Knight as well. Wherein Martin sort of just threw a bunch of Targaryens at you. These chapters are essentially "historical foot notes" that we decided to write as part of the story. Rather than just, as Maester annotations ala AWOIAF
