Coarsely ground cornmeal that is then boiled into a porridge. Not unlike polenta, but different target consistency
I forgot how stressed I get every time they eat 'moms special oatmeal' *twitches in porridge*
If I recall correctly, our oatmeal is also processed differently than your porridge, where the oats are rolled to remove the outer layer and to make them cook faster, rather than cut (though we can buy steel cut oats)
You can buy both types of oats, you can also but something called Ready Brek. :-)
