I am sort of in love with MLE (multi cultural London English) and spent quite a bit of time working with teens that could code switch from 'nah fam that's some booki shit, sack it off" to 'No thankyou, that wouldn't be appropriate' just by me saying ''next 10 mins English English please' 😂
It's an amazing linguistic development, very much to the credit of diverse friendships amongst that age group. Also intriguing that it's perhaps taking us further away from American English than we've been for at least a century.
Absolutely, and it's got bits of Yiddish, cockney and East end slang, bits of Pakistani and Indian culture, west country English, Caribbean patois, Creole and pidgin, (bbc news pidgin is my favourite thing ever) and dialect/ regional uk words. Absolutely fascinating
