I'm disappointed this story ignores Harry's mastery of occlumency in the ~month before the final battle at Hogwarts. I think it should have the 'not canon compliant' tag.
Wait what? Sorry, I don't remember anything like this, I read the books a long time ago and I fact-check most things to make sure I'm not confusing canon and fanon However, this is what google said: 'Harry Potter briefly used Occlumency against Voldemort, although he has never been able to master it. In part, this was because he was unable to master his emotions – Dumbledore should have known he'd find that hard, given he often pointed to Harry's ability to feel as one his greatest strengths.' In short, this means, he knows enough to fight a little but not enough to protect his mind properly, especially from the likes of Voldemort Also, I have the Canon divergence tag so... Anyways, thanks for commenting:)
The point of divergence here is after Harry learned occlumency, so that doesn't cover this particular discrepancy. As for Harry finally successfully doing occlumency, he definitely does, you shouldn't rely on Google too much (-: . Luckily I have a digital copy of the books so I can give you some excerpts from Deathly Hallows:
Harry succeeds for the first time when they're caught by snatchers in the chapter titled Malfoy Manor As Scabior said it, Harry’s scar, which was stretched tight across his distended forehead, burned savagely. More clearly than he could make out anything around him, he saw a towering building, a grim fortress, jet-black and forbidding; Voldemort’s thoughts had suddenly become razor-sharp again; he was gliding toward the gigantic building with a sense of calmly euphoric purpose. … So close … So close … With a huge effort of will Harry closed his mind to Voldemort’s thoughts, pulling himself back to where he sat, tied to Ron, Hermione, Dean, and Griphook in the darkness, listening to Greyback and Scabior.
Then Harry continues when they get to Shell Cottage in the next chapter, title The Wandmaker His scar burned, but he was master of the pain; he felt it, yet was apart from it. He had learned control at last, learned to shut his mind to Voldemort, the very thing Dumbledore had wanted him to learn from Snape. Just as Voldemort had not been able to possess Harry while Harry was consumed with grief for Sirius, so his thoughts could not penetrate Harry now, while he mourned Dobby. Grief, it seemed, drove Voldemort out … though Dumbledore, of course, would have said that it was love. …
He continues to close his mind through the battle of Hogwarts until he decides to let up so he can see what Voldemort is up to “You need to find out where Voldemort is, because he’ll have the snake with him, won’t he? Do it, Harry — look inside him!” Why was it so easy? Because his scar had been burning for hours, yearning to show him Voldemort’s thoughts? He closed his eyes on her command, and at once, the screams and the bangs and all the discordant sounds of the battle were drowned until they became distant, as though he stood far, far away from them. … ...[skipping here]... With a gasp, Harry pulled back and opened his eyes; at the same moment his ears were assaulted with the screeches and cries, the smashes and bangs of battle.
Okay thank you! I really didn’t remember that, like I said I’m mostly going off of memory and google cuz I didn’t wanna read the books again 😅 Thank you for telling me but there’s really nothing I can do to change it now however I think I can over come this with the fact that while Harry remembers the process of how to do all the things he learnt In the future, he’s currently a weird convuluted version of his fourteen year old self and seventeen year old self, which means he’s not proficient in the things he once knew and is still very much run by his emotions so occlumency is harder I don’t know how far along in this fic u are so I won’t say much else But occlumency isn’t actually going to be a really important thing until much later I’m not focusing on it too much currently Hope this helped a little Anyways thnx for commenting and bringing this to my attention:) Feel free to bring up any discrepancies you see later on
