        I wonder if Thranduil and/or Elrond knew Durin? They're old enough. And I can't help but wonder about Durin's thought on elves...(and goldsickness.)
        Also: when/if Thorin finds out about Bilbo, how does he react to knowing his /little brother/ is Durin reborn?

          You'll have to wait to find that out, (I'm currently thinking of it myself so anything is possible). Though if you look at canon facts the gates of Moria (with the elvish riddle) were always open when Durin I was king, but that is no guarantee for how he regards the current elves *cough* Thranduil not helping the dwarves *cough*

          And about Thorin's reaction, that is going to be difficult, I think. Not just from a personal perspective (another 'little brother') but also from a practical, King Under The Mountain, perspective. And, of course, said 'little brother' being Durin and part Hobbit and-

          Well, I can at least promise some drama, I think.
