I couldn't help but stop and write a second comment so quickly!! Mostly because Sarel's point of view is just so fricken precious, and I had said as much about the first little scene I'd read of this with the dresser and the blue shirts 😭❤️ What a sweetie, omg. Also the art work at the top of this chapter is gorgeous. He is very quickly becoming a favorite OC to read about. The whole thing with the Sightless alphabet is just phenomenal and his little determined spirit...! Augh.
I really loved his reaction at first to getting books, and then the instant switch as soon as Aiden told him about how they're printed in Sightless Alphabet. And how he wanted to be a real student!!! And how quickly he picked up the text, and how Aiden said he was proud of Sarel. Oh, my heart. Too cute.
And now we get Harukar here, who I've seen some of his artwork now and am beside myself how cool the concept is. And he's Dawnguard... and I was sat here wondering what Gelebor might think of little Sarel considering the sorrow and sort of empathy for the Falmer that character had in game. I cannot wait to see how this goes.
One more thing. The structure of Sarel's POV and technical skill you're showing in describing the world as Sarel would experience it is phenomenal. Leaning into texture and sound is masterful, of course, and it brings a whole new understanding of such a familiar place -- the college and the Arcanaeum are shown without visually describing. As someone with aphantasia, I appreciate this more than I can describe. It does not happen often but I could almost see this place as I read because of your skill here in conveying it through Sarel's experience. (Ironic, I realize but please know it's the highest of compliments from me.) Just amazing, amazing work. 👏 Thank you for writing this thing. What a stellar idea. Looking forward to how this unfolds.
