Comment on The Serpentine Princess

  1. Well when it come to royal order, it is hard to reject. Here Roz got engaged early as second year while Adolphine is 4th years already while royal order about be royal bride come. Royal family don't have "Book" so they need support from upper duchy. Klass is eager give them. Dunkle don't have any bride to offer bc Hannalore is too young. If you want to reject it, you must engage them to another but again, it would be offend to Royal family.
It isn't that he see her as politic pawn for his own gain. It is just how politic and hierarchy work.

    1. Canon Adolphine's marriage isn't a Royal Order ;). Canon Trauerqual is painfully aware of his position, he's not his fools of older sons. His strong support from Klassenberg is akin to Klassenberg using him as a pawn, the support from Dunkelfelger is timid at best and Ahrensbach is barely able to not crumble on its own, he can't order Drewanchel around and he knows it. Canon Adolphine's marriage is the result of a negotiation ( negotiations are explicitly stated in the LN ), meaning canon Aub Drewanchel traded his daughter's life, dreams and aspirations for financial and political concessions, that's exactly what treating one as a political pawn means ;).

      1. It's as close as royal order can be.
You need to understand why in Y1, everybody is so gungho about Eglantine marying back to royal family. It's simply because the current royal family don't have enough support from grand duchies which they desperately need when they lost the wisdom.
Klassenberg support Trauerqual because he 'owe' them for CW, but he didn't marry a daughter from their duchy- instead- his KC marry someone from their duchy. But this is flimsy, there's a need for a 'wife' for full support.
This is the same reason why Chinese Emperor have a harem- the wife is both a representative in royal family to ensure the interest of her native duchy is protected and also 'hostage/insurance' for the king.

Adolphine becoming a royal wife is not mere sacrificial pawn with no benefit. The royal family NEED her to marry into the family to bring Drewanchel support properly and also counter influence from Klassenberg, so they don't become too dominant in Trauerqual's court.
Those benefits negotiated with Trauerqual is not because Drewanchel can't afford it, but to ensure the RF knows they didn't give a daughter and political support at no cost. It's also to emphasize Adolphine's 'value' to RF-
and that's why later in canon when she gets divorced, the RF has to compensate her and Drewanchel. They don't get 'scot-free' for FAILING to give Drewanchel what they owed after giving away Adolphine.
Sigiswald is a fool because he is too arrogant to realize there's a consequence if he doesn't treat Adolphine well, and that's what bites him in canon.
