I always interpreted Yui's childlike appearance as a means of helping whoever she's talking to relax around her, as well as a means of slotting into certain NPCs that might already be programmed to react to a player in distress (like the little girl who gave the intel needed for that most aggravating of field bosses) if the system connected to the MHCP programs determined it to be necessary. But the idea that they could change appearances freely makes sense well enough—even though it still leaves Strea as a big old question-mark (the out-of-universe answer of course being "the games weren't as restrained with cheesecake and harem humor as the main series was").
And as I said, those nits that I picked really only jumped out at me because I read the whole thing in a big ol' marathon. They really don't detract in a meaningful way. I actually only brought them up so you could keep them in mind during revisions, as I keep in mind my tendency to use "actually" twice in one sentence when writing off-the-cuff. :V
In any case, I'll be looking forward to your interpretation of Fairy Dance, and to Sugu's reaction to the revelation that her nerdy adoptive brother found himself an ACTUAL virtual wife.
