Yes, I wanted Sabrina safe but I also wanted to make sure that it was very clear that her situation was way similar to Jason's. And the danger in that, obviously.
For me, my favorite thing about it is that Jason gets to see what happened when he did everything 'right'. Aka, what he thought Bruce should have done for him--teach him lethal training, make sure that he never patrolled alone, keep away from Rogues. And in the end, it did protect her but in an awful way. I think Jason would think back to it, in the quiet hours of patrol for months, about what would have happened if Bruce had taught him to shoot like he did for Sabrina.
Would he have the ability to shoot the Joker? How would it have affected him? How would it have affected Bruce? And all this, plus how it has changed Sabrina, keeps on his mind. Not to say he isn't grateful that his methods worked, in a sense, but that it's a sad world that that's what's needed to be learned.
