Hey!!! First of all, I'm glad you like it!!!

Idk about ze/zir but i am aware that sie/hir might be derived from the German pronouns sie/ihr—that doesn't necessarily make them female pronouns in English though! They are only female pronouns if the person using them sees them that way, and even then they would only be female for that specific person. For me, they would be somewhere between gender neutral and female since I'm German and they remind me so much of the German sie/ihr, but I know that for most other people they're likely gender neutral more than anything.

Neopronouns in general are more often neither male nor female—of course anyone can use she/her and he/him if they so desire because pronouns don't equal gender, but neopronouns specifically are often used to defy gender norms. Sie/hir could be used by someone who's female but wants to show hir support to the queer community, but it can also be used by people of any other gender. It could be used by someone who isn't comfortable using she/her but is still female-aligned, or by someone who is not female at all—the only requirement for using a set of pronouns is that the person using them likes them. So I guess some people wouldn't see a difference for using she/her vs. sie/hir for themselves while for other people it could mean the difference between euphoria and dysphoria. Basically, there's no rules to this shit, just use whatever you're comfortable with.

In Nebula's case here ... Nebula isn't female as ze was in canon. Nebula in this fic is non-binary and uses sie/hir because sie likes it and because she/her makes hir really uncomfortable. There's not really more to it than that. Sie tried out different sets of pronouns and decided to use ze/zir and sie/hir because that's what sie prefered for hirself.

The way you say how you identify is not the most important to be honest, as long as you're accepting of other's identities—some people use the "correct" way of saying it as a means to seem inclusive while spouting transphobic statements while some people who use the "wrong" way are actually supportive, what matters more in my opinion is what you do and how you treat people, not what you say and how you say it. I can show you how most people would introduce their gender and pronouns though—you can say you're female, male or non-binary, if you want to be more specific you can say whether you're trans or cis (meaning that your gender matches the one you were assigned at birth.) Since you said you're female born, you can say that you're AFAB (Assigned Female At Birth; the male version being AMAB), and for your pronouns you can say that you use she/her. The word identify is usually avoided since it's often used to discredit queer people's identity. But then again, as long as you're supportive and accepting and willing to learn, it doesn't really matter as much.

I'm not offended at all!! I'm actually glad you asked about it because it shows that even though you are confused, you are willing to learn instead of just rejecting the idea because you don't understand it. I'm planning to introduce a lot more queer characters with complex identities that might seem contradictory in the future, so if you have any questions about any of them feel free to ask me! Queer identities are one of my special interests so I'm always happy to talk about them and educate others as long as the other person is respectful (and you have been plenty respectful sooo).

Thank you for asking and I hope this explains it, but if you have further questions, feel free to let me know! I hope you'll enjoy this fic in the future, too! 💖💖💖

    1. Thanks for the explination!! 🥰🥰🤗🤗

Its a little clearer, but since its a new concept for me, its still foggy, however, i dont want to turn this thread of comments into a Queer gender eduaction lecture lol.

Thanks for helping me learn how to present myself, but i have what i hope to be another quick question...

Whats the difference between cis and AFAB??

      thanks for the lesson!! 🥰🤗🤗

You can comment as many question as you like here tbh I don't mind! Or, if you prefer, you could send me asks on Tumblr or join my fic server on Discord and we could message there or move to DMs! Maybe I could also try to find resources to link in the chapters where concepts like this appear for the first times, that might be better xD

AFAB means that you've been assigned female at birth, afab people can be any gender—for example I am AFAB nonbinary, I've been assigned female at birth but I'm not female, I'm nonbinary.

Cis means that your gender matches what you've been assigned at birth. A man who's AMAB (assigned male at birth) or a woman who's AFAB would be cis. It's the opposite of trans, basically. I'm AFAB and nonbinary, so I'm not cis.

This is another resource you can look at, too; this organization has a pretty good guide on how to write transgender characters, and that also helps just learning about gender in general!

I can also recomend just reading fic with trans characters. Most of them don't really go into the terminology of it all but it still helps grasping the concept!

Tbh ive read a couple of fics already that have characters with various designations, so its not totally new to me, but ive never been clear on the distinctions.

I will go investigate these links further!!
