Comment on Doctor Who and the Hodge-Podge

  1. Alas, I'm no longer in contact with the other members of this group. They were the first group of Whovian/B7/Sapphire & Steel fans I ever encountered -- we coalesced in the summer after I graduated from college, when Doctor Who was a shiny new import, and mostly meant Tom Baker (Peter Davison having only just been cast). In the fall, I went on to grad school, and we finished the Hodge-Podge by mail. I had been the instigator (it was my idea originally, and I kept it more or less on track and made sure it actually got somewhere); I probably wrote about a third of the total text, and did all the editing and continuity. The others did the heavy lifting of setting it up for printing, illustrating it, publishing, etc.

The group itself soon fragmented, moving on to other fandoms and other parts of the country. I only have contact info for two of them at present. I miss them; they were a great bunch. That was the group in which I made my first attempts at writing fanfic, and where I got started editing other people's work. After I concluded that my writing sucked and it was never going to improve, I persisted with the editing . . . and eventually, decades later, tried writing again.

    1. Arrrghhh...I'm sorry you lost contact with these people. It seems that you had a marvelous time with them and that you had that rare connection that one sometimes finds within a group like that. And what a good time to be had! This fiction was stellar work. Just stellar!

I am so glad you got back into writing, lovie. You truly have a witty and fun mind!
