The parallels in this fic continue to take me out at the knees!! Roger taking all of Thom's hate and Alanna taking all his love is so well-observed. I've always thought they were the two most important people in his life, and you articulate that relationship so well here.
And then the contrast between Alanna calling on the gods to heal Jon, versus Thom calling in their debt to him to kill Roger!! First of all, the way you introduce it via Jon being an absolute dick was fantastic--not every parallel is a reassuring one! And then I really loved the mechanics of the magic duel--they can be so tricky to write, but what you have here not only makes sense with the beats of the story/Thom and Rogers' characterization, but also feels believable in our understanding of how magic functions in-universe (which is saying something, considering how inconsistent canon is lol).
Also it's so telling that Thom compares Lianne to Marinie... Even as we know he's doing it to get access to her, it's just like him to say the thing he means in a way that can be taken back/denied later. Ow.
