I love the way you've used the two storms - the physical storm and the political one - to show all the dangers Peter faced. And the first storm was so symbolic of the huge upheaval that was coming: Nothing good ever came to those who inherit before the age of majority SO TRUE. And I love that the drama of the storm is the catalyst for Brockdorff making his promise, under cover of the darkness and the noise and Peter's need for comfort.
So sad that Brockdorff blames himself for not preventing the coup and puts it down to his own carelessness. Ugh :( And the moment he realises Peter is saying goodbye is such a killer. This: It had not worked when they were fourteen and the Russian envoys came OH no, that just broke my heart. Darn you :D
