   Sorry for the maybe dumb question, but do I need to know much about the anime or games to read this? I'm familiar with the basic mechanics of Pokemon from watching episodes as a kid but never played the games or watched enough of the show to have a real knowledge of plotlines, characters, or locations.

      I've had a bunch of readers read this without knowing the plot of the games, and this isn't based on the anime at all, so I'd say you're good to go.
