  1. Clearly a lot of thought went into how the settlers SURVIVE. Like, food and clean water, rebuilding the houses, top notch stuff.

    1. It's partially my love of the settlement building showing, but there's also another reason. The Sole Survivor comes out of the Vault with an entirely understandable drive to find and save Shaun. But there needs to be some "leveling up," gaining resources and allies before taking on Kellogg or you're gonna run into a buzz saw. I use survival needs as one way of controlling the pace of the main plot. You leave the Vault on October 23, 2287. Meaning it's about to be winter in Massachusetts, with bitter cold and heavy snow. So along with searching for Shaun, Nate has to get ready to to hunker down for the blizzard conditions which are sure to come, and secure Sanctuary against the dangers of the Commonwealth as well. After all, it wouldn't do for Nate to rescue Shaun, only to freeze to death, starve, or get wiped out by raiders like so many other settlers have before.
