I read CoIE ages and ages ago but like Ted Kord (and his successor Jaime Reyes) are some of my favorites. Blue Beetle's friendship with Booster Gold leads into one of the most heart breaking arcs and I will cry over them for a thousand years (Sorta like Booster Gold does tbh).
And loving Obsidian is like being the proud parent of tree #2 in the school play. Every time they're on screen is like a major event even if he doesn't have a ton of lines *laughs* As you can see by me remembering him showing up there even tho he didn't have a huge role. There's my baby!! *Claps and waves loudly*
I mean, I guess the thing for me is I love a lot of side characters in DC. I mean the Batfam obviously is like the LOVE OF MY LIFE followed closely by the Arrow fam and then a whole string of minor and strange characters--most of who were deleted during the 52 reboot. So I'm like forever cranky about that. (Especially since a lot of them were queer or minority characters like excuse you). But like I love DC because it's so easy to start spiraling. I forever remember Green Arrow popping up in a Batman comic, calling Batman a lot of names, shooting some people and disappearing and I was like WHO IS THAT TELL ME MORE. And that's how I constantly keep spiraling deeper and deeper into the universe and now I'm writing Eritgan with a straight face.
But yeah I feel like if you're going to have a huge big event CoIE is a good one. Zero Hour was also designed to reboot the universe a little bit but it also had a more emotional story in the middle of it and some major shit going on (and it gave us Jason Todd as we know him SO THERE'S THAT). But then after those two DC sorta lost its mind with big events.
Tho I will say as much as I hate what happened through/because of Flashpoint I need about a million AU stories about Dick as Dr. Fate, and Jason as a priest and Slade Wilson as a full on pirate. And Deadman trailing after Dick trying to protect that idiot from himeslf, ffs Dick. That's what I'm taking from that big event and leaving just about literally everything else.
Well, I'm now looking forward to cameos and crossovers from DC characters based outside Gotham, as I continue my Bat family catch up. That Green Arrow introduction sounds awesome!
Flashpoint as a good source of AUs if nothing else reminds of a comment that I saw somewhere about the latest X-Men movie.... something about not even caring if the movie is any good, because the worse the movie, the better the fanfiction. Maybe that also applies to DC reboots. In which case, I should probably be thanking DC for New 52!
