      I thought of more teammate pair-ups, both heroes and villains:
      Sweetie--Harumi
      Coral--Benthomaar
      Moby--Kalmaar
      Liberty--Skylor
      Also, maybe you could work the Merpup legend into the lore and culture of Merlopia? I love the Merpups, especially when Chase doesn't believe they exist at first and then is like, "Pup? Fishtail? SKYE?! MERPUP?! *proceeds to faint*.
