Comment on Our Destined End or Way

  1. A manga image of Rook Hunt from Twisted Wonderland standing next to a cauldron with lightning coming out of it

    Hello again! Honestly, it's understandable, I can tell you've poured a ton of love into it. It wouldn't be 80k and counting otherwise! I think it's totally fair for a longfic to be your baby. I hold a healthy amount of respect and fear for people who can write longfic haha

    Regarding his canon design vs fanart, that makes sense! He really does look serious as a heart attack in his sprite that I saw, to the point that I had a bit of trouble imagining his expressions for a little bit after I saw it. Also lol, he really is bombastic, huh? Both in personality and profession.

    And please, ramble away! It's nice to have a little extra context, since I'm absolutely terrible at strategy games so I'll probably never play it ^^; I can see why you like him so much, I'm growing attached to him vicariously too. His fate sounds CRUSHING ;w; He really did set off the disaster dominos, didn't he?

    1. Hi! Sorry, I was busy, so I couldn’t reply to all your comments before, but I’ll look through them all now and answer any questions you might have. Thank you so, so much for the flood of comments, btw. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that! It means a lot to hear someone’s thoughts on this little brainrot of mine :>

      To be fair and give you full context on the game itself: the game has a very easy mode (quote) that lets you focus on the story. I’m obviously biased as hell because I adore the characters and story. (*gestures wildly towards this fic*) A lot of people who do like strategy games seem to criticize the game for having too many cutscenes and too little gameplay. Can’t relate, honestly, even though I do love the gameplay. All that being said, I still couldn’t recommend this game to you in good consciousness knowing that you don’t like strategy games. If it’s just the difficulty, I wouldn’t worry too much because of the easier modes (+ being able to grind and there being no perma-death) but if you don’t have fun with the gameplay, that seems like a chore, tbh.

      Dragan, in game, is mostly used as a plot device to uncover the existence of salt outside Hyzante and to serve as a catalyst to start the war, tbh. He’s a very lovable plot device (+ there is some focus on his father’s grief later in the game, which was simultaneously one of my favorite and least favorite parts of the story for how much it hurt.) I tried to keep Dragan faithful to canon, but my own headcanons will inevitably come into play as the fic progresses, because canon left quite some holes for me to fill in.

      Roland, by contrast, is one of the main characters (equally as important as Frederica and Benedict in game, with Serenoa being the protagonist and player character.) He’s beautifully developed in canon, and I try my best to do him justice. Most of his arc gets covered in this fic, but if there are any jumps that don’t make sense fandom blind, feel free to ask. I’m it’s not obvious already, I really love gushing about this game ^^;
