    One thousand years! Wow, that’s a lot. I really like the description how Maglor’s appearance kind of puts Celebrimbor on focus, and removes the haziness of his mind.

    Yeah, Celebrimbor has been alone with his thoughts and self-deception for a long, long time, which is why he so direly needed someone he could talk to with absolute honesty. Maglor is perfect for this, because he has made so many mistakes himself, and has seen the consequences when you cannot divert your path away from them. He cannot do it, because he is bound by the Oath - but Celebrimbor still can: he has made a promise only to himself, and that means he could release himself from it! He doesn't have to waste away all by himself with his feelings buried. He could act differently, but that requires owning up to his lies and his true wishes - which he has now done. Now he can move on, and hopefully climb out of his hole he's dug for himself.

    Thank you so much for the praise! This was indeed one of the sentences that gave me great amusement to put into the story. Just imagine how it must be for Maglor: born into a family of geniuses who are at the same time war criminals, who could either do the best of things or worst of things in any given situation, and it's always a toss-up. There is not much room for nuance there, and a lot of dealing in extremes - with themselves and others.
    I see Maglor as someone who would take a stand for nuance - and here he does. He's had enough drama queens in his life - they should at least keep the drama to situations where they are justified. And here, it clearly isn't.
    But maybe you need to hear the truth from others to believe in it, and Celebrimbor certainly got a hard check here, haha.
