"Eventually I'll write a fic where they get closer with no tears but (*eyes current WIP*) probably not for a while lmao." -AO3 user ariex09 August 13th 2024
Promises made, promises kept!
Man!! This is a lovely punchy chapter. It hit me like a ton of bricks after the "but that does not mean that I don’t wish to hear about you. Very much the opposite, in fact. Did something happen?" letter: Cliopher has been dogged for years by letters saying 'we love you, please please come home, when are you coming home?' And now he's in a position where that's the kind of letter his heart is inclined towards but he caaaaaaaan't. Bless this mess. Uhg, I love that he's worked so hard for one thousand years, but now 2 months is unbearable.
Loved the Conju and Omo appearances. I'm pleased that Conju is getting to scream it out, hope it works out well for him!
ohhh i didn't even think about the parallels of kip with his family and cliopher with fitzroy!!! that's soooo crunchy and tasty, he will NOT put fitzroy in the position his family put him in, not after he's told him that hes not ready for solaara (nevermind that fitzroy hearing that kip misses him and wants to be with him can only do good things, nevermind that fitzroy sent him music to work on together that is pure painful yearning that cracks him open like a coconut).
I did feel very warmed by the "My dear, you are not and have never been boring" and if I was in Cliopher's position I would reread that until the letter fell apart.
> Promises made, promises kept! Hilariously I don't even think I was talking about this fic, I think that was 'diving for a flame pearl', where Kip breaking down crying at a key point was always in the outline and planned. Meanwhile this chapter wasn't a planned part of this fic until I had spent enough time in Kip's head to actually recognize how bad chapter 6 was going to tie him in knots, which I figured out at least a little bit before I actually went to write it, but like, not that far before.
> Bless this mess. Uhg, I love that he's worked so hard for one thousand years, but now 2 months is unbearable. He had purposeful work and a Fitzroy for the thousand years! Not having either makes everything much harder for him I think.
