Sure, if you’re leading them on the ground you loop the rope and place it in your hand, or if it’s the reins you hold one hand loosely under their face so you can direct them with the bit and rest of the reins travel loosely to the second hand. (I explore this in my own fanfic cause I wanted her to have this skill too rofl!) basically there’s “direct rein and neck rein” if you’re looking for lots of control like English dressage you’ve got one hand on each side of the mouth. If you’re going long distance or need to hold other things like a sword or rope the reins are in one hand and the sliding on the neck tells them which way to go. And if you’re doing archer or have a war horse they are also gonna get a ton of info from your legs and how you’re leaning in the saddle, so in some cases you barely need the reins (also varies from horse to horse). And for the love of god don’t shake the reins unless you’ve got a cart. Excess reins come out the top like an icecream cone so you can just tug a little with your pinky.
