I love how well you describe the everyday horrors of the subway-crowds, coughing people--and the special horrors for this particular man--deplorable music, and too much interest. Love that the reason for his dislike of interest is not spelled out, yet...he could just be a high strung individual, or perhaps someone famous or notorious.
And then the thunderbolt of their meeting: He gets all the way to five when he sees her and he suddenly he can remember nothing at all. --Wonderful! I love that he is confused by his own reaction. And I love that he does not mark her reaction down to his appearance, that there truly was a connection so strong between them that she felt it and he felt it and knew that was what caused her reaction.
So intrigued to see this from her point of view in the next chapter!
