Cater was definitely like that before Riddle, because man, I would be too, Heartslabyul is a weird dorm, curious in the extreme but at the end of the day it is the one that tries the hardest to generate bonds between its students, Savannaclaw is a jungle, Octavinelle a constant competition, Scarabia can be a bit like HB in that aspect but only because of Kalim, their parties are not traditional; Pomefiore is too proud and Diamsomnia is very creepy, yes, familiar, but not specifically friendly. Heartslabyul is the friendliest dorm among its inhabitants because of its traditions, which although they are ridiculous, they encourage pride in their way of being; I always thought that Cater did like traditions because although they do not make sense at the end of the day they are enjoyable, but that changed with Riddle because he turned the party into an obligation
heartslabyul does feel a lot more like the odd one out of the dorms. where the students are always on edge because of the strict rules (and riddle enforcing them) but of the students we see its the heartslabyul students who would call each other friends without ulterior motives. its very compelling to me in that way
i feel like in a lot of ways, cater needs to make some character developments in his freshman year at NRC to grow to enjoy things, try to let people in, so that when he gets 'burned' by that it hurts even more, and it becomes so much more difficult for him to let people in again. cater is a very interesting character to me and i love dissecting him through this fic <3
