loving this fic, cant wait to see how it goes. do you already have ideas on a reveal? i thought of vee getting hurt accidentally and she bleeds, alarming the group, revealing she isn't a monster. (i know theres a lot of debate on if monsters can bleed or not in deltarune but im gonna choose to believe they dont until future chapters reveal more) of course, this is just a suggestion
One of my theories regarding Deltarune is that human and monster souls are much more similar than they were in Undertale.
- Monsters in Undertale were made out of magic because of their souls, and so they didn't have much physical matter. That's why they turn to dust upon death.
- In Deltarune, magic doesn't seem to exist outside of the Dark Worlds, which means that monster biology needs to be at least a little different to account for this.
- Hometown has a graveyard, implying that they bury their dead.
- Susie makes multiple jokes about making people bleed, and Lancer threatens to smash Kris and Susie into blood in Chapter One.
- We know from Undertale that determination comes from your SOUL and functions as a life force. Humans have a ton of it, monsters have a tiny bit of it.
- In Chapter Two, Queen talks about wanting to create a Neo Dark Fountain (A fountain inside a fountain). She mentions that the fountains are created with the power of determination, something she states all lightners posses. We even see Berdly attempt to create one on the bridge! Either everyone's determination is evened out, or the minimum to create a fountain is EXTREMELY low.
- If monsters now have a normal amount of determination (and no magic!), they'd need more physical forms to account for that, hence explaining why they would bleed.
My theory is that the gap between human and monster souls in Deltarune is significantly smaller than that of Undertale! This explains several things:
- There wasn't a war (or it was stopped, or it had a different outcome, etc.) because humans had less of a reason to fear monsters taking their souls.
- Soul research is significantly less developed than it is in Undertale, if the library books are anything to go by, because there was less of a motive to investigate the differences between human and monster souls.
- How anyone in Hometown can create a fountain. If it's something only a human could do, that leaves either Kris or some other unseen character to be the knight.
The ONLY thing that throws a wrench in here would be a rabbit in the apartments asking Kris if it hurts to be made of blood. I don't know how that fits into my grand conspiracy web.
To answer your actual suggestion, it's a very good one! I already have plans for Vee's reveal that I'm saving for later, but having her bleed could absolutely still be incorporated...
