that line is actually a reference to metal gear solid mobile! its set between mgs1 and mgs2 and covers one of snake and otacons first missions together as philanthropy. ive never played it personally and neither meagan nor i could find and english playthrough so we had to translate it from a german and spanish playthrough respectivly haha. MGSM is technically dubiously canon but its interesting and we personally incorperate it into the canon we use to tell our stories. Snake Tales I know less about, and im not sure what parts if any we would incorperate, but as im pretty sure it's stuff thats set around mgs2 era it would technically happen after this fic. But the fact that one reference reminded you of another really goes to show some things are reocurring in metal gear haha. I'm definitly glad you brought it up :D

Fuck NOW I REALY want to play mgs mobile.
I hope there some way to emulate game. Now my life depend on it.
External Gazer is awesome story btw. It starts about big monster-soldier in water of Big Shell (Otacon and Mei ling asks Snake to take a photo), and later unwound in big weird plot about parallel universes. Hey! You can fight a big russian soldier in vr like in the first game, mei ling married to solidus, otacon and snake arguing about "you not real, no YOU NOT REAL" and snake win this fight scarying the shit out of Otacon saying "the otacon from my universe wouldn't be mad even if i told him i accidentally broke one of his toys". It sooo sweet and weird story.
